Couloirs are magical steep skiing environments that can have unique characteristics that require special risk assessments. This course has a 3:1 guest:Guide ratio

The course consists of 3 days:

  • Day 1: Practicing techniques while skiing a modest objective

    • Rope skills - rapelling / lowering

    • Transitioning on steep slopes

    • Crampon & iceax use

    • Steep skiing technique

    • Sluff managment

    • Introducing couloir risk assessment skills.

  • Days 2 & 3: Spring time Couloir/steep skiing * in the Lake Louise/Yoho/93 North areas.

*Objectives are conditions dependent. The course is scheduled at a time when stability usually favours steep skiing, however, if a big storm rolls in it’s entirely possible that we ski 25 degree trees…
