
Couloirs are magical steep skiing environments that can have unique characteristics that require special risk assessments. This course has a 3:1 guest:Guide ratio
The course consists of 3 days:
Day 1: Practicing techniques while skiing a modest objective
Rope skills - rapelling / lowering
Transitioning on steep slopes
Crampon & iceax use
Steep skiing technique
Sluff managment
Introducing couloir risk assessment skills.
Days 2 & 3: Spring time Couloir/steep skiing * in the Lake Louise/Yoho/93 North areas.
*Objectives are conditions dependent. The course is scheduled at a time when stability usually favours steep skiing, however, if a big storm rolls in it’s entirely possible that we ski 25 degree trees…
