Couloirs are magical steep skiing environments that can have unique characteristics that require special risk assessments. This course has a 3:1 guest:Guide ratio. Ski crampons, boot crampons, ice axe and harness are required equipment.

The course consists of 3 days:

• Day 1: Skills day while skiing a modest objective

  • Rope skills - rappelling / lowering

  • Transitioning on steep slopes

  • Crampon & ice axe use

  • Steep skiing technique

  • Sluff management

  • Introducing couloir risk assessment skills.

• Days 2 & 3: Spring time Couloir/steep skiing in the Lake Louise/Yoho/93 North areas.
